On the heels of two sold-out launch party events, Baur’s Listening Lounge is quickly earning a reputation as the place to be for Colorado’s discerning music fan. With four scheduled performances left in the Spring Concert series, the historic Denver location is shining brightly for contemporary listeners seeking pin-drop quiet, sit down experience. Upcoming concert events include Jazz singer Catherine Russell, world-music and folk duo Bethany & Rufus with special guest percussionist, Brahim Fribgane as well as a truly unique performance of Brazillian jazz and Bossanova with Jovino Santos Neto (piano), Maucha Adnet (vocals) & Romero Lubambo (guitar). Also! Don’t miss the special matinee performance on Mother’s Day featuring mother/daughter piano duo Katie and Bobette Mahan.

Escape to a simpler time and place on April 19th with Catherine Russell at Baur’s Listening Lounge. Grammy award winning Catherine Russell is the rarest of entities – a genuine jazz and blues singer – who can sing virtually anything. Her voice a dusky, stalwart and soulful instrument that radiates interpretive power yet remains touchingly vulnerable.

Appearing live with her trio including Steinway artist Matt Shane and recording artist, Matt Munistieri on guitar — Russell’s repertoire features a selection of gems from the 1920’s to the present bursting with soul and humor. Throughout the years she has performed with such legendary talent as David Bowie, Steely Dan, Cyndi Lauper, Jackson Browne, Levon Helm as well as Paul Simon. The recipient of dozens of awards for her album Bring It Back, most recently she was awarded of a Grammy for her appearance as a featured artist on the soundtrack for the HBO TV series Boardwalk Empire.

Immerse yourself into a world of music with unique Brazilian and African spirituals at Baur’s Listening Lounge on April 30th featuring Bethany Yarrow & Rufus Cappadocia with special guest Brahim Fribgane on percussion and oud. The daughter of legendary folk artist, Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul and Mary) — Bethany is no stranger to the stage. With startling power and a delicate touch, together Bethany Yarrow and renowned cello performer Rufus Cappadocia weave a story line of deep groove, sweet melody, and inspired dance that take audiences on a journey around the world and through time. Their special performances spark a fire-in-the-belly, soul-stirring experience that lingers long after the concert ends. On tour in support of their forthcoming release, Trouble in the Land, the duo can be seen at concert halls and environmental rallies alike, as well as cameo appearances on Amy Goodman’s Democracy now and NPR Radio.

Fans of Brazilian jazz, samba and bossanova will revel in a night of latin jazz on May 3rd with two unique performances with Jovino Santos Neto on piano, Romero Lubambo on guitar and bossanova extraordinaire Maucha Adnet, vocals. Each highly respected in the Latin jazz community in their own right, this special trio configuration is a rare treat for listeners in Colorado and beyond. A powerhouse of South American flavors, together Jovino Santos Neto, Maucha Adnet & Romero Lubambo soulfully combine classical Brazilian jazz piano, classic Latin guitar, flute and the sultry bossa-nova vocals that listeners have adored for centuries. Baur’s Listening Lounge will present two unique sets on Sunday on May 3rd including both a 3 PM matinee and 7 PM dinner performance. With tickets starting at just $30, fans can purchase an additional ticket for a 2nd performance for just $10 more.

In celebration of mother’s everywhere, the Baur’s Listening Lounge will present a rousing and intimate Mother’s Day performance featuring mother and daughter piano duo, Katie and Bobette Mahan on May 9th at 3 PM. A special performance developed specifically for Listening Lounge fans, the event will feature an unusual mother/daughter duet and solo performances including an exciting interpretation of on Gershwin’s “Rhapsody In Blue”. American pianist Katie Mahan is capturing the attention of audiences throughout the world for her innovative musical personality, poetic interpretations, and graceful, charming state presence. Katie’s playing epitomizes the the French style of elegance, beauty and poetry. Since making her orchestral debut in 1999 performing Gershwin’s Concerto in F with the Breckenridge Symphony, Katie has appeared in concert throughout the USA, Europe, Canada, the Middle East, Russia and Japan. A stunning environment for a Mother’s Day performance, this event will take place in the more intimate “salon” at Baur’s Listening Lounge, allowing listeners a worry free listening experience within a private room of the bustling restaurant.

All music events are arranged and organized by Denver’s newest non-profit music organization M/A/S (Music Appreciation Society) whose aim is to provide intimate listening experiences and educational benefits with world class, nationally recognized musicians. M/A/S has great plans to showcase multiple genres of music from jazz to bluegrass, vocal and instrumental, world, classical, folk, blues, pop, chamber, guitar and piano concerts.

Not just a venue featuring world-class music, Baur’s Restaurant will open to the public on April 24 featuring a cordillera cuisine concept with a hearty, but elegant edge. A slimmed down dinner menu will be available for music fans who wish to whet their appetite on more than just good tunes at M/A/S events before the official opening.
