David Amram: The First 80 Years

A Film Screening.

Classical composer, French horn jazz player, world musician, collaborator with Beat icon Jack Kerouac – David Amram has squeezed more experience and music into his eight decades than several other men combined. As a jazz French horn player, Amram worked with Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Miles Davis, and many others. In his classical work he has worked with Leonard Bernstein, served as conductor for many prominent orchestras, composed more than 100 orchestral and chamber music pieces and has written many scores for theater and film, including the original The Manchurian Candidate (1962), Splendor in the Grass (1961), Arthur Miller’s play After The Fall and the legendary Beat Generation film Pull My Daisy (1959). His discography includes over 20 ground-breaking records including several released in the last 3 years.

This acclaimed 2011 film, directed  by Lawrence Kraman captures all the above-mentioned accomplishments and more using rare archival footage and features interviews and performances by singer Kurt Elling and others.

The film will be screened one time only at 4pm on Monday September 24 beginning a three day celebration hosted by MAS Eclectic concert series featuring Maestro Amram in person and some of Denver’s most skilled musicians. An intimate house concert of his classical chamber music will be held on Tuesday September 25 featuring leading players from the Colorado Symphony and on Wednesday September 26 Dazzle will present David Amram & Friends Jazz performance.
